Our Vision

Harlow Publicity was founded in 2010 by Piper Harlow with the intention of helping brands find their inner “fierce” and bring it out into the forefront. In today’s online media-driven world, hiding in the shadows doesn’t attract interest from consumers or the media. But not everyone feels ready to be in the spotlight.

That’s where we come in!

We specialize in image consulting because we know the power a strong brand has to change the world. We will find your inner alter ego and help you shine, just like Beyonce does on stage with Sasha Fierce. We work with individuals, brands, and corporations looking to make an impact—one bold move at a time.

About Harlow Publicity

13 years ago, with a background in advertising and entertainment, Piper Harlow had a chance meeting with a recruiter who not only advised her to step into the realm of public relations due to her experience and Rolodex but also asked if she would take her on as her first client.  Piper accepted, and a few months later the Total Career Makeover Contest in NYC became a huge success nationwide and allowed her client to travel around the country helping 1 million job seekers find jobs.

Harlow Publicity prides itself on being a grassroots boutique agency.  Piper has sat down with dozens of colleagues to find out exactly what they are looking for in a pitch and how to make her clients stand out amongst countless others.  With almost 20 years of experience in the industry, she has learned the insider secrets to successful campaigns, starting with image and brand consulting and ending with packaging and proper positioning. Branding is fundamental before you can get exposure, and Harlow Publicity helps you unlock/channel the fearless alter ego of your brand.

Having a client roster of celebrities, beauty products, authors, corporations, individuals, and brands, Piper has recognized that proper placement was always the top priority, whether the company was a start-up with a low budget or an established business with a large budget.  So, she made it her mission to help people on any budget gain the exposure they wanted.  With a team of proven performers in the media, Harlow Publicity’s mission is to help others with a tailored plan to avoid mistakes and spend their money wisely.

We believe that everybody deserves to be able to promote themselves or their business and be fruitful.  Our team is not your typical corporate stiffs and “yes” robots.  The tone and environment of Harlow Publicity is fun and exciting. We are compassionate and genuinely care about our clients and their success. We will hold your hand through the rough times and jump up and down with you in the good times as well.

Harlow Publicity accepts new clients only after a consultation to make sure that we are a good fit for each other.  So book yours today.  We are so excited to meet you and turn your dreams into reality.  Just imagINe…the image is in you!

Why You Need a Publicist

Why the hell is Kylie Jenner’s latest Instagram photo all over the news? Nothing is new about it.

Why are all the people I work with getting write-ups for small roles but I’m the lead and I’m not?

I’ve been working for years and I know if I just had more exposure I would get more bookings.

Why am I not on TMZ???

The answer is really simple. You need a publicist in your life.  Now you may think that only big Hollywood A-listers need a publicist, but the truth is that the right publicist will put you into the arms of or get the attention of top agents and most importantly, directors and producers.  As I’m sure you know, if the director or producer likes you, you’ll land the role.

So what exactly does a publicist do? Their job is to monitor your image on all media platforms, place you in interviews or write-ups, have you attend red-carpet events, and more. Publicists often have the ruthless job of keeping the media at bay during a crisis and helping their clients maintain a clean reputation. They range in price from $1,000-$10,000 a month depending upon your region, and of course, reputation.  There are plenty of publicists out there who will charge less, but remember, you get what you pay for.

Based out of NYC, I get tons of calls from actors just starting out as well as well-established talent that are not happy with their current representation.  There are certain

  • No booking is ever too small – albeit a podcast with 30,000 followers or a local newspaper with a circulation of 8,000. ANY PRESS IS GOOD PRESS
  • Bookings are never guaranteed. It happens all the time that a publicist may book you for a news segment, which gets canceled that day.  It is not the publicist’s fault.  Breaking news always has the upper hand, and a good publicist will get your interview rescheduled.
  • PR takes time. If you have a movie or a product launch coming out in 2 weeks and expect a publicist to have you on Jimmy Fallon, TMZ, and The Hollywood Reporter, you are fooling yourself. Publicists need to coordinate with the schedules of writers and editors which usually requires a minimum lead time of 8-10 weeks.  Monthly publications like Vogue or Bella often take even longer as their editorial calendars are planned months to a year in advance.
  • Some months you may not get any bookings. No matter how big of a star you are, there will be some months you may not have any placements, while other months you will be slammed with coast-to-coast interviews. This does not mean that your publicist isn’t working their butt off on your account – it all has to do with timing.
  • Scheduled communication is imperative. From day one, you and your publicist should have set calls biweekly at minimum to discuss strategy, who they have been in contact with, and the most recent results. If you interview a publicist and they do not discuss their methods of reporting – hang up and don’t look back.

A good publicist can do wonders for your career, and a bad one can set you back or destroy what you have worked so hard for.  The world of media is full of ups and downs and you should feel comfortable enough with your publicist to let them know if something isn’t working for you and vice versa.  Strategies are always changing and evolving, and with the right fit, hiring a publicist can be the best investment you make for yourself and your career.
